FAMILY DAY @ the airport
Festival features parachute jumps
and free plane rides for children

SANFORD — The public is invited to attend FAMILY DAY @ the airport, a festival of aviation hosted by the Sanford-Lee County Regional Airport and sponsored by Capital Bank. The event will be held on Saturday, October 10, from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Activities include the Experimental Aircraft Association's Young Eagles free plane rides for children between the ages of 8 and 17, hot air balloon rides and paratrooper jumps throughout the day. Historic and experimental aircraft, medical helicopters and other attractions will be on display.

"Everyone is invited to enjoy a day of fun activities, sights and sounds at the airport," said Bob Heuts, a member of the Sanford-Lee County Regional Airport Authority, one of the several organizations arranging the event. "Our goal is to introduce more children and adults in our community to the world of aviation and the valuable resource we have right here in this region."

The airport grounds will be turned into a festival with food vendors, bounce houses for children and special exhibits from other local and regional organizations -- including the Wings of Carolina Flying Club, Civil Air Patrol, American Red Cross, North Carolina Air Guard, North Carolina Division of Aviation, North Carolina Highway Patrol and the National Guard.

"This event will provide something for every member of the family," added Dan Swanson, manager of the Sanford-Lee Country Regional Airport. "We look forward to welcoming our friends from all the surrounding communities to enjoy the entertainment and activities set to take place."

The Sanford-Lee County Regional Airport is located at 700 Rod Sullivan Road, just off of U.S. Highway 1 at Exit 76 (Farrell Road), about 20 miles southwest of Cary.
